Colorado has the most interesting weather all year, but especially in the winter - and almost everything it has to offer can be perfect for your photo session!
Amy had to reschedule her maternity session when one of her sweet children came down with a bug the day we originally scheduled. But when a heavy snowstorm blew in a couple of days before the rescheduled date, we changed it AGAIN - not to avoid the snow, but to embrace its beauty! Snow here in Colorado can melt very quickly once the sun comes out - even if it is still very cold! But on this glorious afternoon, only a day after the snow stopped, the air was calm (thank you Lord for stilling the wind!) and the snow did not melt too much, nor was it terribly cold. With the trees still covered in snow, slowly dripping off in the sunshine, and the ground covered but the sun shining through the trees in a glorious late-afternoon glow, Fox Run Park was the most magical scene for these photos!
Amy and her husband, Jordan, are expecting their fourth sweet babe. I LOVE that Amy is making the effort to document this journey for her fourth and probably last baby - I mean, we all know that after the first, a lot of these things slip through the cracks even though we don't mean for them to. Amy's kids aren't in these photos because they recently took family photos, and her kids will be in the upcoming newborn session for their little brother, Henry, when he makes his debut! However, Jordan and Amy brought their kids along for the session, and under the supervision of my husband, they spent the session time sledding with my daughter and having an absolute blast - my husband reported that the kids excitedly exclaimed that they hadn't gotten to go sledding before! What a joy it was to watch the kids relish the winter wonderland as much as we did taking photos beneath the trees!
Amy wisely showed up in snow boots along with her adorable sweater dress and sun hat, and brought a pair of cute shoes to change into after the short walk through the snow to where we did most of their photos. Jordan wasn't a fan of the cold but toughed it out well. In winter sessions, even if everyone is feeling pretty cozy I always keep things moving as quickly as possible to avoid anyone getting too uncomfortable! After photos together as a couple, Amy rocked some solo photos and even tried some new pose ideas with me! While I did my best to keep her from any deeper snow where her feet would sink in, not once did she complain and we had so much fun together taking photos and watching our children shriek and giggle in delight as they played in the snow together.
Amy, I'm so happy we met and got to celebrate your growing family together! It means so much to me that you trust me to guide you through planning for your session and through posing at the session, and when you told me that I knew that we were such a great fit for one another! I am beyond excited to meet Henry once he arrives and capture some of your first moments together as a family of six!
