As a photographer in Colorado Springs, I have met some absolutely amazing people. I have the BEST clients, some who have become dear friends. It's still a rare gift to meet clients with whom I have SO much in common!
Alyssa and Billy fit that description so well. Alyssa reached out recently as she is expecting a little boy with her husband Billy, their first child! I am so excited to celebrate their growing family with maternity and newborn photos. As Alyssa and I planned her sessions, we came to realize we have a lot in common! Alyssa and Billy are originally from Oahu, Hawaii, then moved to Texas, and finally Colorado recently. We share a desire to raise our kids to be in and in love with the outdoors (part of what drew them to Colorado!), and have also known our husbands since childhood (although she met Billy in elementary school! My husband and I met late in high school). Alyssa and Billy's deep, life-long connection was obvious through their session. They are best friends through and through and truly enjoy each other! At the end of our session, we just hung out talking for a while and that was just the capstone to an amazing time together capturing their maternity memories.
Alyssa really wanted Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak in her photos, so I knew we had a few great options, and Alyssa chose one of the best - Mesa Overlook! This location definitely has its challenges. There is no shade, so if we start too early, the light is too harsh. For my particular photography style, which relies on soft, even lighting, sessions have to be carefully timed close to sunset. After doing many photo sessions at Mesa Overlook, I've learned how to get beautiful photos with the many beautiful angles this location provides at different points as the sun sets. That way, we are able to take advantage of multiple beautiful backgrounds, capture Garden of the Gods and the Peak in the most beautiful lighting possible, and create lots of variety in a gallery with the most consistent lighting possible! Alyssa and Billy made it VERY easy to do all of these things. They were so easy to work with and we had such a good time celebrating baby Beck!
Colorado has very volatile spring weather, and we were so blessed that this final day in April was absolutely beautiful and delightfully warm. The sunset was absolutely glorious and we had a few clouds to create even more color all around us. Alyssa chose such beautiful outfits for herself and Billy. Billy's neutrals and her lighter hued bluey, flowery dress were the perfect colors for this location - it can be difficult to style and choose great colors when you have deep orange rocks in your background! Colorado has SUCH colorful backgrounds! Her pattern was the perfect compliment to Billy's solids, and I love that they brought some little details to include in the photo - an adorable hat and shoes for Beck when he arrives, as well as his ultrasound photo! These details made the session so much more personal and meaningful.
Alyssa and Billy, I'm so honored I got to celebrate Beck's impending arrival with you, and get to know you guys. I truly had so much fun and I just love how these photos turned out. I know you'll treasure them through the years and Beck will always know how deeply loved he is! I can't wait to meet him in a couple of months when we do your family newborn session!
