Helen Hunt Falls is such a beautiful and unique spot for a photo session at any time of the year!
As we approach spring here in Colorado Springs, what the weather conditions will be like is always such a gamble - as are the conditions for the session, especially right up against the mountains at locations like Helen Hunt Falls. By conditions, I mean - how much snow will there be on the road and ground? Will the falls be iced over, partly or completely? What kind of footwear will clients need - will we be able to walk out on the ice, or will we be standing on whatever exposed rocks keep our feet out of the icy cold water? It's always an adventure! Meagan was totally up for it though - she came prepared in a beautiful forest green dress that stood out against the ice and snow, as well as shoes that are not only just her style and add a unique touch to her outfit, but would be safe and warm out on the ice. At first she thought I should be sure not to photograph her feet at all, but with some reassurance she understood that her choice was just fine and she looked AMAZING!
When Meagan arrived at her session, I wasn't even sure I was meeting the right person, even though I'd seen her lovely face on Instagram already - in her sweater she had on over her dress to keep warm, she did not look 8 months pregnant, or pregnant at all! With her sweater removed, though, her adorable little bump was the highlight of the evening and we celebrated the upcoming arrival of her son, while also getting to know each other with playful banter (this girl really gets my humor and I love it!) and relating to each other in our experiences of pregnancy and motherhood so far. Meagan's love for her little boy shined through in her gentle smiles and caresses of her belly, and in her sweet laughter which would suddenly light up her face at just the right moment. We had a blast out on the ice, laughing when my feet would sink into a deep patch of snow. To complete her session, we went up the beautiful stone staircase above the falls and relished the last of the sunset light filtering through the hills.
At such a young age, Meagan has embraced motherhood and shown more care, dedication, and responsibility than many people twice her age. Her little guy is so blessed to have a mama like her. I'm so glad we were able to connect and capture these precious memories for this little family! Meagan, thank you for trusting me with your memories and letting me get to know you. I truly cannot wait to see what God has in store for you guys!!!
