Even though her two big brothers were energetically bouncing around her with frenetic energy and giggling constantly, baby Layne took it all in stride during her newborn session in Colorado Springs!
This little lady came into this world SO loved by her parents and big brothers, who cooed to Layne while she cried as mom changed her into her first outfit, "it's okay baby, we're just getting changed for pictures!" Brett & Tyler smiled proudly as they snuggled with their baby sister on mom and dad's laps, and Brett was so proud to hold her while they took their very own photos with Layne! Little kids don't often last long for photos, so we did all of the family photos first before moving on and we were able to get through these so quickly. Even though older siblings can bring a lot of energy and chaos to the family photos, I appreciate the very real and authentic moments this creates and I strive to capture it all - the wiggles, the giggles, the goofy faces - because this is what real life is, and in between we can usually grab some beautiful photos where everyone is looking and smiling, or interacting with the new baby. Young parenthood - it is simultaneously chaotic and beautiful and it's all worth celebrating.
Layne's parents, Cassi & Patrick, were so trusting of my visions to capture their moments together and it made such a difference in getting the session done. We agreed towards the end of the session how wonderful it is to have these quiet, relaxed moments together where they can simply focus on each other and their new baby girl and relish all that she is and the joy she has brought by completing their family. Patrick & Cassi love each other so deeply, and the laughter they bring to each other created such beautiful moments in their photos. At one point they sat snuggled up next to Layne's crib, holding her, gazing into her little blue eyes, and wondering what her future holds - will she be an athlete? (Her parents both have athletic backgrounds and work in collegiate sports!) Will she be a bookwork? Hopefully a bit of both? They joked good-naturedly about her being rich and famous one day and buying them a house. :)
Layne's beautiful nursery was decked out in adorable cowgirl decor and outfits. Cassi & Patrick are originally from Montana and have lived in a few different states. While they currently rent in the suburbs of Colorado Springs, they hope to one day own land and be closer to nature again, another point of connection between us as client and photographer. After two boys, Cassi had a blast decorating in all things pink and girly! Patrick was excited to end the session with some all-boy photos in their cowboy boots and hats - just adorable! One day Layne will be joining these photos in her own boots and hat!
Cassi & Patrick, thank you so much for welcoming me into your home and trusting me with these precious memories while your daughter is still so fresh and new. Witnessing the love between all five of you was truly a joy, and I'm excited to capture some more memories as all of your children continue to grow!
