What better way to beat the winter blues than to step through a portal into another season entirely?!

Not everyone is like me and loves the snow. (Who knew?!) Winter in Colorado is notoriously slow for photographers, and imagining why is not difficult. When there is not snow on the ground, most things are just brown and gross. And when there IS snow on the ground, even if you love the snow, the wind and cold still make for a challenging environment for photos.

Phelan Gardens Greenhouse is here to save the day!!!

When you step into the Greenhouse at Phelan Gardens, you are immediately immersed in the perfect combination of warmth and humidity. Your senses come to life as the green plants and flowers around you invigorate your soul, reminding you that life will return again to the outside world as well - but for now, you are free to relish in the life-giving warmth and color around you. Peace. Breathe.

And in this temporary reprieve, you'll find the joy for any kind of photo session you need or dream of! The greenhouse is the perfect place for families, children, couples, maternity sessions, even senior sessions. Beauty is found here literally any time of year, and on this cold, blustery winter day I had the privilege of photographing many children, some couples, and the loving relationships of families. A few of these wonderful people also showed off some of my women's and children's client closet items!

My favorite part of these sessions was letting kids be kids. I had them run around the greenhouse, run away from their parents, then back again and give them hugs or tickles, explore the many interesting plants (the carnivorous plants were very popular!) and look for fairies in the fairy garden. Letting kids make silly faces warms them up for those beautiful, genuine smiles parents so crave in photos of their babies.

Maybe it was the warmth of the greenhouse, but the couples sure warmed up well, too! They were willing to get romantic and intimate among the lush greenery, and we created moments that look and felt as if they were the only people in the greenhouse. Bringing couples close and reminding them of their love for one another is such a privilege.
